Marek's "Friend"

Marek LOVES the Friend Magazine. Rather obsessed actually. It is like Christmas when it arrives in the mail. He will look through it for hours just pointing out and naming everything. We always sit down to read it for days after he gets it. He loves to color the coloring page and then after that, every page in the magazine.

But today, while we were reading it for the first time, something different happened. Something hysterical.

We were going through each page talking about the pictures, "There's Jesus. There's a star, a door, grass, a tree, a flower, a bike, she is sad, he is happy...." etc. Then we flipped the page.

If you didn't know, Marek has a fear of spiders (this is my fault since I told him a scary spider story in a dark closet.. but anyway!...). Within seconds of turning the page, Marek had spotted that huge yellow and black spider and BOOKED it across the room. He didn't even want his feet down (that was instinct, not taught).

I finally got the camera out and said I would take a picture of him if he came and held the spider page open.

It took all his guts, believe me.


So, I've been having fun teasing him with it. I will randomly turn to that page and freak him out or I will leave it on the floor with that page wide open. He will NOT go near it and just yells, "SPIDER MOMMY!!" If I turn the page to a different picture he will go over there and pick up his friend and continue reading. Don't show him that spider though!!!

Hilarious. Just hilarious.
