"Fighting for freedom wherever there's trouble"

This is a pic of our study area below our beds. My roommate and fellow platoon leader Josh and I built this great bunk bed and study area so that we could maximize the space we had in our little room. It's a great set up. If we're going to be here for a year we figured we'd make the most of it! You may notice I'm a bit sunburned/farmer's tanned. It is super sunny here all the time. It's actually a lot like New Mexico in that its quite hot and very dry. Thank goodness for bottled water and chapstick! Our rooms are, unfortunately, really far from the airfield so we spend very little time here. I lift weights, eat, fly, study, and spend most of my day up on "Mustang Ramp" and pretty much keep the room for sleeping and keeping contact with my beautiful wife Sara and my handsome boys.

There it is! Our big bunk-beds. I think I'll make something like this for the boys when they get older so they can keep their toys under their beds and sleep in a cool lil' cubby hole. Last night Josh totally missed his dresser as a step down and slammed into the ground. It was hilarious, but I'm sure it was painful for him too. There is a big airfield and there are tons of European and Brittish troops here, not to mention the Aussies. So naturally there is an indoor soccer field! I'm gonna have to talk with Joseph about getting some indoor shoes...

This is when we first arrived in Afghanistan on the C-17. It was wild flying in. I couldn't help but feel a little like Hicks in the movie "Aliens" as they flew in on the alien planet all packed in with troopers. It all felt pretty sureal. Its still, even now, hard to believe this is all really happening. Sorry the pics a bit blurry.

It was kind of cool seeing the American Flag hanging above us. It was a little reminder of why we are here, to fight for freedom. I'm proud to serve alongside my fellow soldiers and know that we will all offer 100% and then some when it comes to completing our mission. Love You Sara! Thanks for your posts, I always eagerly await the family news. Talk to you soon babe!
