Surprise!

I found a picture that shows he can open doors. This is his closet that I store all his books in so he can't get to them unless I open it up for him. During nap time he managed to get this open and yes, he ripped a lot of books. He is crying because I think he fell asleep on the books and when he woke up, well, he cried. Pretty typical. You should have seen him this morning. He takes after his mom and is NOT a morning person.

Original Post:

Last night we had a REALLY loud thunderstorm. The thunder was so loud it was keeping me awake- and that NEVER happens. I usually can fall asleep on a concrete floor! So, needless to say, I didn't sleep very well.

Even though falling asleep is usually super easy for me don't be fooled that I am deaf to noise. Because when it comes to HEARING my children at night- I hear EVERYTHING.

With that said: Guess what I woke up to this morning?

My bedroom door knob rattling and knocking on the door. Surprise: Marek! I opened up the door and there is Marek with a straight face, binky in his mouth and horse dragging. After the shock wore off that #1. I didn't HEAR him get out of his room and #2. He wasn't crying and #3. He OPENED his closed door... I said, "Well hello Marek! Um. Would you like to come in?" He kept his face straight, looked past me and starting to climb up on my bed. I said, "Okay then. Would you like to watch a movie?" He then sat on my bed with his binky and horse still attached to him and stared at the blank TV. Okay then, movie it is! You should have seen MY face then!

I kept thinking to myself that I must have left the door to his room open and that is how he got out. He couldn't have opened the door by himself! It is a circular knob you have to twist!

Dinner Time. Marek is in bed. The girls and I are eating dinner and the next thing I know I look down by my side and wallah: Surprise! Marek. I said, "Um. Why Hello Marek. What are you doing?" He was grinning from ear to ear. He started climbing my chair and giggling. All I could hear were the girls laughing their heads off. I didn't think it was so funny! (Just wait girls until your boys are 18 months... just wait! Then I will be laughing! lol)

I go into Marek's room to find that his horse is half shoved down the vent and his binky is MIA. Then I try to find his sippy cup. Yesterday he threw his sippy down the vent so I knew it was probably down there again. I had to dig my arm so far down the vent that my whole arm up to my shoulder was in it. Hello sippy. I tried moving his bed half way onto the vent so he could no longer get into it but his bed doesn't work that way.

I am going to have to screw the vent down. As for his door? Well, I learned from when he locked himself IN his room that I can open it pretty easily with a screw driver. My plan? To lock him IN his bedroom and just use the screw driver to open it when I need to. I am not a fan of that though because if I have to get into his room FAST I want to be able to. So, I will probably end up going to Walmart on Monday to get a CHILD PROOF plastic thing to go on the door knob. No doubt Marek will learn how to dismantle it soon enough.

Sorry there were no pictures at this crime scene- he was sneaky and I didn't want to reenact this one just in case it was pure luck he opened the door these last MANY times. I can always hope, right?

Wow sara I love the post, I can't beleive that Marek is already opening doors! He really IS too smart for his own good!
I hope that you don't feel exhausted all the time chasing after these lil' boys. I pray that you'll have the strength to do all that you need to! You are my super mom! Thanks for all your effort and hard work. Always know that me and the boys are eternally grateful for all you do!

I have a houdini in my home as well - try turning the whole knob around, so you lock it from the outside of the room. They can't get out then, and you can get in fast. I wait till my little guy falls asleep then unlock it so he can come get me in the morning. The plastic doorknob covers do work for a time, but he eventually figured that out as well, so my husband cut off the tabs on the cover, I have to reach through the holes to actually grab the knob to open it, he's got that one down now as well. I guess they keep the 2 yr old still out of the pantry :) Seriously - good luck!
