LAME. Do I stay private?

I just made my blog private. Thanks for all those who responded. BUT, one thing I didn't know when I decided to go private is that you have to have a google account. Right? Is that what I am understanding? When you accept my blog invitation it says you have 30 days to get a google account to keep reading the blog and if you don't then you have only 30 days to view it as a guest.

That is LAME.

So a google account is what..? You have to have an email through gmail? Hotmail, msn and yahoo don't count? So really I have inconvenienced everyone who wants to read my blog that doesn't have a google account... and most of those who don't have a google account probably won't know how to get one without it being totally complicated for them.

Do I stay Private?

No, you don't have to have a google account. I used to have my blog private and anyone could sign in with any email, as long as it was the email address I sent the invitation to. They DO NOT have to have a google account.

I guess it could have changed, cause its been 2 years since I had my blog private, but my mom signs into my brother's private blog with her hotmail account.

I use a hotmail account with my blog. People just have to create a "google" account with their existing email by excepting your invite and signing up. Going private has been peace of mind for me. I put a tracker on my blog and saw that people from totally random places in the world were seeing pictures of us, my babies and where we lived and I didn't like it. Especially with deployments, there's no way I wanted mine public.

I have people who do not have google accounts have access to my blog. As far as I know, I agree with Katie. No worries Sara, I'd keep it private.

I have wondered the same thing because I get phone call after phone call from my sweet grandmother saying she "still" can't get in, and of course there is no help explaining it to her over the phone. I thought by going private for deployment sake would be safe, but talking to Nate, it seems like it doesn't really matter either way. So we'll see what happens.

And, it isn't hard to create a google account. Grandma Mangum has one and she does really well with it. It's free, cheap and easy. I will say though that other kinds aren't as friendly to the user as google.
