So I am stressing over Marek's flat head. It is really worrying me to death. His doctors appointment won't be for another week or two. His head is flat in the back and going flatter I am sure of it. Babies have to wear these helmets if it gets too bad and they have to wear it for months for 23 hours a day!! What if Marek has to get a helmet?! I would feel so bad for him. I talked with our doctor like 2 months ago about his flat head and about helmets and he assured me that he wouldn't have to get a helmet and that Marek's head would fix itself as he starts to crawl and sit up. I didn't think twice after he told me that, cuz he's his doctor BUT HECK now I am thinking twice! The last time a doctor told me everything was fine and I was worrying for nothing he was Dead Wrong (Marek being breech and me having to get a C section). I am trying everything I can for his little head. He WONT sleep on his stomach or his side. When he falls asleep I sneak in and turn him to his side but he will either wake up sooner or find his way to his back. I don't know what to do and I am worrying myself sick! My poor little boy!!! :( Sorry for all you doctors out there but I am starting to become a pessimist about them. I will be for sure if he has to get a helmet and we could have done something, anything, 2 months ago to help prevent it! GRRRRR.

Poor Marek, and poor you! I think the majority of motherhood is constant worrying. I'm sure he will be just fine. Abrielle hated being on her tummy and had a bald spot forever -then one day she just changed her mind, and liked being on her tummy to play. At least he's a beautiful healthy baby :)
Madeline had a flat head one one side because she would always sleep on that side. I noticed it when she was just a month old. I asked the doctor about it and he told me the same thing that you were told. I started doing what you are doing, switching her to the other side after she fell asleep, I moved her mobile to the other end of her bed and rotated her every few days. I was really worried about the helmet thing too. Madeline's head did get better though. Since she has stared sitting up and crawling. I would definitely point it out to your doctor. I have had some friends whose kids have had the helmet and they get through it so it's not too bad. They are alot better than they used to be that's for sure. My niece had one several years ago and the helmet was awful! Here's an article on baby center about it. http://www.babycenter.com/0_plagiocephaly-flat-head-syndrome_1187981.bc

When I worked at a daycare one of the babies in my class had the same problem. His mom brought in a foam, circle pillow that had a hole in the middle, so when he slept in his back his head wasn't flat on the mattress. His was pretty bad,and the doctor kept threating the helmet, but his got better and he never had to wear the helmet. I don't know where they got the pillow, but it seemed to work for him.
I didn't mean to worry you sick... Marek will be just fine helmet or no helmet. I'll still think he's cute :)
Cedar had the same problem, only his was off to the side. He had tortacolis or something; I just rotated his head like crazy. His head is still flatter on that one side. My doc back home said it was just cosmetic for them to wear the helmet, nothing happens neurolically(?). Hey Navajo babies have flatter heads then he has...I'm POSITIVE. You'll be fine, so will he.
Oh yeah, my older sister told me to apply small amounts of pressure to try and shape the head too. I don't know if you want to do that, but that's basically what the helmet does, only it's constant. Take that advise for what it's worth. :)
