SEEK SHELTER OR DIE

So a few of my friends and I (and Kylee and Chaz) got together at our friend Jennie's house for some down time with our children. It was early this morning (okay yes, 9:30 is early for me!) that we all gathered there to eat some delicious french toast. We were having a great time watching our babies lay around and enjoy each others company. Sounds nice and relaxing, right? It was. UNTIL....

UNTIL the tornado sirens starting going off here on Fort Rucker. Jennie and I thought nothing of it (we being uneducated about tornadoes and what a siren really does mean, lol) until Natalie and Stephanie started panicking. We hurried and turned on the tv to find out there was a tornado watch and the tornado was heading straight for Fort Rucker. Steph said there was a tornado closet in Jennie's house (haha, Jennie didn't know it was one...neither did I of course) so we frantically cleared out all of the things in the closet and huddled together on the floor. We opened all the windows a crack (oh Jen, you might want to close your windows now, sorry!) and shut the doors. Chaz was there, which we were really grateful to have a priesthood holder there with us. He kept watching the TV and walking outside to see the black clouds roll by (I know, I thought it was suicidal, too!). We were all listening very carefully for a great big train noise. I thought I heard it but it was just the AC turning on. The lights started flickering and the TV turned off and on. We then heard an ambulance rush by and Chaz announced that the TV said there was a touchdown at the Walmart in Enterprise (about 15 minutes away). My family was lucky because we were about to go to that same Walmart just a half an hour earlier but decided to stay and chat longer. The sirens went on forever. Finally "the man" started speaking to us ("the man" is a man's voice that comes out of all these speakers here on Fort Rucker. It is kinda, really, creepy). He said, "There is a tornado warning in the area. SEEK SHELTER." So, what was a relaxing breakfast at Jennie's turned into a high stress get the babies and run to the closet type a morning. I am glad we were all together. More than that Jennie and I are glad that Nat and Steph were there to tell us that we aren't supposed to ignore those sirens and that they are not just test alarms. Hopefully after 45 min. of those sirens going off Jennie and I would have realized it was something much bigger than a test. LOL. What a morning!!! Oh, and if you were wondering-- a prayer was said. We really were nervous.

I was laughing so hard I am currently crying over it all, and your description of "the man"....

Thank goodness we were all together, it made the scary time much more bearable.
Thanks so much for breakfast, with shall we say "entertainment" provided by mother nature :)
and thanks Chaz for acting like everything was normal and we (the nine of us) were just playing the the closet:)

Aahhhh the memories I am making here at Fort Rucker!

priceless.

I remeber the days when I used to get scared about the sirens and bad weather and now I just go out and watch it. I guess over time you get used to it. But it is better to be safe than sorry! :)
